Top Ten Tuesday: Spooky Books Recommended To Me

Happy Tuesday! Halloween is not far away, and even though Halloween isn’t celebrated in India, I have been seeing pumpkins and spooky vibes all over Instagram. So, I thought of recommending scary books from my friends that will (hopefully) keep you up at night this October for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. Let’s begin!

1. The Turn of The Screw, Henry James

12948. sy475

The inspiration for countless thriller books and the recent Netflix show “The Haunting Of Bly Manor”(which I’m currently watching), The Turn of The Screw is an eerie book about two strange children living in a countryside mansion under the care of housekeepers and deals with the scary experiences that a new governor goes through when she accepts a job to look after them. The ending is quite unexpected and has been a hotly debated topic over the years.

2. Rebecca, Daphne Du Maurier

18891155

The book starts with this line: “Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.” Intriguing, isn’t it? This is a gothic story and deals with our narrator marrying a widower and later struggling with the shadow cast by his late wife over their lives.

3. The Haunting Of Hill House, Shirley Jackson

89717. sy475

This is the book behind the hit Netflix show “The Haunting Of Hill House”. I watched the show and loved it. The book, as always, will be better, I feel. According to Goodreads, it’s a work of unnerving terror!

4. Lock Every Door, Riley Sager

41837243. sy475

This story is set in a mysterious building in New York with our narrator being an apartment sitter. The book is engaging and the plot twist is really surprising.

5. The Whisper Man, Alex North

41940236

I read this book last year and loved it. It is suspenseful and gripping and has supernatural elements too.

This is my short list of books which I enjoyed and will hopefully scare you enough this Halloween!

  1. Ohhh I just bought Rebecca! I haven’t read it but I wanted to before I watch the Netflix movie. I read The Haunting of Hill House, and tbh, I didn’t like it. The show was much better while the book was rather boring. I hope you enjoy it more than I did!
