Top Ten Tuesday: Books on my Summer 2020 TBR

Hello guys! I haven’t done this in a long time, so I thought I would begin doing the Top Ten Tuesday.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s prompt is to share ten books on our summer TBR. I am usually a mood reader, so I don’t plan TBR’s, but I do have a general idea of books I plan on reading next. In the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement in the USA and around the world, I intend to support in ways I can and one of them is to support Black authors and read diverse books. We need to empower the marginalised and oppressed communities in the world and one way to do that is to read books by people from such communities to be educated and inspired. There are so many voices needing to be heard and it’s time to give them a ear.

Moving on, here is my list:

1. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

Radio Silence has been on my TBR for a long time and I have heard it is one of the best books by Alice Oseman, so I think it’s finally time to read this book.

2. Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

After reading The Poet X, Elizabeth Acevedo has become one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read this new story of hers.

3. Love from A to Z by S.K. Ali

40148146. sy475

This is another book that I am really excited to read. It seems more than just a YA love story and seems to tackle relevant issues as well.

4.You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson

50160619. sx318 sy475

This book is about Liz Lighty, a black girl who competes in a contest to become her school’s prom queen to get a scholarship so that she can attend her dream college and falls for her fellow contender. It sounds funny and sweet and I’m here for it.

5. Mayhem by Estelle Laure

This book is claimed to be a complex story with magical elements about a family of women taking control and saying enough is enough. Sounds interesting!

6. A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow

39085465. sy475

Look at that cover!! The cover itself made me want to read the book. And the premise sounds super interesting. It’s about sirens with magical abilities. I can’t wait to dive into this story.

7. The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

I have heard so many good things about The Poppy War. It is a highly acclaimed fantasy and I am excited to read about the war and the politics surrounding it.

8. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

This book is part of my TBR for the #StartOnYourShelfathon hosted by CW from The Quiet Pond.

9. The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar

This is a love story of two teen girls with rival henna businesses. It sounds sweet and seems it will touch on important topics as well.

10. Milk Teeth by Amrita Mahale

This book is by an Indian author and I have heard a lot of good things about it. It’s set in Mumbai in India and I am interested in reading it.
